Southridge Winter Series #3
On February 6, 2016 Bear Valley Bikes competed in the Southridge Winter Series #3 XC event. The day was extremely windy and team members were still recovering from a hard effort the previous week at the 6 & 12 Hours of Temecula. Still, every rider who competed ended up on the podium. 2016 is looking to be one of the strongest teams in Bear Valley Bikes history and that says a lot!
Team owner Derek Hermon is very optimistic about the upcoming season. "This season is going to be really great because we have our returning Pro riders (Stu, Nobil, and myself) in addition to our new team members. We also have a great club team that shows up to the races and events. When we get the whole team together it is a lot of fun!"
-The Pro Men's field continues to be blazing fast this year with each race turning up different results. Alfred Pacheco led the team this week with a solid 3rd place finish. Alfred was able to finish a minute faster than the second race. Julien Bourdevaire struggled with mechanical issues but was still able to finish in a respectable 5th place. Jean-Louis Bourdevaire was close behind in 7th place.
-In the Pro Women's race, Nikki Peterson was the lone female in the class. She was still feeling a lot of fatigue from the 12 Hours of Temecula with Derek Hermon last week but battled the tiredness and wind to finish in her second fastest time ever. "My Smith sunglasses really saved the day with all of this wind!"
-The Vet Pro Men's race saw Stuart Gonzalez finish in first yet again! This time he won by 4 minutes over Chains Required rider Romelo Forcino. "I felt that the Specialized Evade really helped me cut through the wind today. I wear that helmet at almost every race these days!" Derek Hermon, who was also very tired from the 12 Hours of Temecula, posted a very respectable 4th place finish. Derek has also been setting up a Speed-Evolution booth before and after the race in addition to managing the team and racing.
-Ken Ridley made another appearance at the Winter Series and was able to move up a spot to 2nd place in the Men's Cat 1 60+. He even stayed for his podium before jetting off to the hot springs!

As always, a big thank you to Phillip Beckman for being out there taking photos!
Next up, a rest week! That's right, we are all taking a week off of racing to train, relax, and recuperate.
